From frontier cabin, to one room schoolhouse, to a charming bed & breakfast, Miss Lissia's has come full circle. Now, it takes on new meaning as a plantation cottage bed & breakfast. The owner shares her incredible family history and romantic story of her ancestor's lives during the War of Southern Rebellion and their life as pioneers in the deep south.

Miss Lissia's Plantation Bed & Breakfast was named in honor of the owner's grandmother southern born, Malissa Ann Mayo Foster. Before the turn of the century Malissa, recorded her life story in a piece entitled, " Lissia." This wonderful story was the history of her incredible life as a child on a large plantation in the Northwest Georgia Mountains. It was published by the journal, "The Sunny South." With "pen in hand", she left behind an enduring legacy. Her words touched my heart and changed how I saw history, from the eyes of a child of the Antebellum South.

The newlyweds " built their first home in the forks of a roads that held promise." Two short years later, the War between the North & South broke out. Dixie fell, but their faith and courage prevailed. Captain Foster was noted as a typical southern gentleman and planter, who served gallantly in the War of Southern Rebellion. After the War, their beloved plantation prospered into a community known as Foster's Store. Known to be of the plantation class, their Southern pride kept them holding on. Long gone were the ways of the Old South...

Malissa Foster - "Miss Lissia"

In the 1900 census, she was noted as the mother of fifteen children, seven remained alive. She was effected by many hardships, but never lost her faith. As the mother of so many children, Miss Lissia was the ultimate teacher, so it seems fitting that our bed & breakfast be named in honor of such a " precious angel.". Miss Lissia's pays homage to all of our ancestors, that so gracefully paved the road before us and provided us with greater opportunities. Taught us to love and showed us what faith was...
