| ~Our Legacy~ |
Miss Lissia's Plantation Cottage began as a business adventure~ ministry. With the thought of creating a special place for married couples, we prayed
a lot and let the Lord lead us. The original building was in quite a state of neglect and had a 50 year old Mulberry tree growing into it, something had to be done. After more prayer,
thoughtful consideration and scheduled appointments with the local school board, the turn of the century schoolhouse was put up for silent auction.
Purchased, moved and lovingly restored, Miss Lissia's captures the essence of the Old West and the unchartered frontier. In it's time, the homesteaders cabin brought an element of grace to a rugged West Texas land. Out of the unsettled lands, early pioneers carved out a place to call home. After long cattle drives, cowboys wanted a place to hang their hat and ranches and plantations to lay claim to, a place to settle down and start a family. |

After much research, many consultations and
a lot of help and advice from Grandpa Doss, out of the rubble, came a rose........ We thank all of our family and friends for their generous help, time, talent and prayers. It is greatly appreciated. The Lord has granted us favor and we give the glory to him!
Miss Lissia's was always a diamond in the rough. Now she shines as our charming little painted lady,
a testimony of dedication to leave something better, than it was found. We, Michelle and Derek Doss invite you to be our guests at Miss Lissia's Plantation Bed & Breakfast. With Michelle's talent of decorating and interest in history /genealogy and Derek's background in construction, Miss Lissia's became a culmination of those talents. We will be your hosts during your stay. Our greatest wish for you and yours, is that you have a
wonderful romantic weekend. May the Lord's greatest blessings be upon you as they have been upon us, in our lives. |

~Our Love Story~
Michelle is related to the Buckingham's of England, also has
reported Cherokee heritage and legend holds that her father's
family came over on the Mayflower. Her Lyles side of her family
came to the U. S. in the 1600's. When Derek & Michelle were
dating they made the connection, that they actually lived on the
same street growing up. They might have played together as
children, fitting for these high school sweethearts, who traced
their family history back to the same state, same county, and
same town in the state of Georgia, around the time of the Civil
War. Michelle's family eventually settling in Tom Green Co, TX
(trading out a vineyard in Georgia for land along the banks of
the Concho) and Derek's settling in Indian Territory. Derek's
family, during her research many times, was only a county or
two over from her own family. His gr-grandmother was also known
to be of Cherokee descent. His maternal side came from Belgium
and another line tried their hand in mining for gold in
Colorado. Derek came to TX as a child with his family, met
Michelle in high school, and they later married. They have three
wonderful children and the rest is history, a sweet love
story.......... |
